Facilities and activities

fff
Here is where we detail what happens on a day-to-day basis for all our children, in nursery and pre-school – it’s sub-divided by age group, so please either use the navigation above, or scroll down the page, to find the information you’re after.

Our facilities

Our building has been decorated and resourced to a high specification in order to provide a children’s environment of extremely high quality. We have a fully-equipped kitchen, which provides us with daily home cooked food (see Meals below), and we have  self-contained toilet facilities equipped specifically for children.

Security

Our Nursery is fitted with a security entrance. Parents and carers can gain access to the nursery by pressing the door buzzer which will then be answered by a member of staff. Only parents and carers named on the registration form will be allowed to collect the child unless prior arrangements have been made.
The garden area is securely fenced with a lockable gate, and CCTV cameras are installed in all areas of the nursery.Any visitors or work contractors will have their identity checked and will be asked to sign in.

Pre-school room

Outside play area

Rockers & Rollers has a lovely outside play area, which is fenced and very secure (see Security above). We have a wide variety of outside toys available for all our children, such as slides, water tables, sandpit, buggies, trucks and our new willow igloo!
Here are a few shots of what it looks like:

Sensory Room

The Sensory Room uses light, sound and a range of specialised equipment designed to create an environment that is used for relaxation and calming.
Our Sensory Room consists of bubble tubes, fibre optics, colour changing lights and projectors amongst other exciting things. With the aid of switches it allows children to interact with the equipment, giving the opportunity to explore cause and effect.
The Sensory Room delivers proven benefits across all age ranges. The children enjoy a range of activities including stories, singing and relaxation sessions. These activities take place in small groups or on a 1:1 basis.

Meals and Nutrition

At Rockers & Rollers, we understand the importance of children’s food:

  • We believe that mealtimes are a pleasurable and sociable time, and extremely important part of a child’s day, with a wealth of learning opportunities.
  • We are strongly committed to providing meals and snacks which are prepared and cooked on the premises using healthy, fresh and mainly organic ingredients.
  • Our meals are nutritionally balanced, additive-free, and fresh fruit and vegetables are served every day.

Special dietary requirements are catered for and none of our meals or snacks contain nuts. The menu for the day is displayed on a blackboard in the entrance – the menu on the right is just an example.

Life in the Baby Room

Baby Room: for children between three months to aproximatly 18 months, we have a delightful enclosed room, which incorporates a separate sleep nursery, access to the outdoors and sensory soft play area. All our Rollers are given the freedom to explore their surroundings throughout the day – but we know that all babies have different needs and schedules, so we make sure that we follow any changing, feeding and sleep routines that you have in place at home.

When they’re not sleeping, feeding or being changed, we like to keep our babies entertained! We have a ton of activities for the babies to enjoy, such as discovery mats, mobiles, stacking blocks, water play and singing.

If you want to know more about how we look after our little ones, just give us a call, or pop in and speak to any of our staff. We’d be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Life with Toddlers

Rocking around: from around 18 months to the age of 2 and a half, our toddlers spend their time in a fanastically stimulating, friendly space that encourages children to explore share and play. The types of activities that our toddlers get involved with every day range from painting and sticking, to singing and dancing, We have dressing-up sessions, messy play with sand, water and jelly in the garden, and imaginative story-times to keep them entertained.

All our equipment is age-appropriate, and helps with their communication, numeracy and problem-solving skills. Here are a few pictures of our toddler room – any further questions, just get in touch!

Life with the Pre-schoolers

We have a wonderful big room for our pre-school children – the perfect environment for them to develop socially, emotionally and academically in the company of their peers. Their days involve drawing and painting, role-play and dressing-up, trips to the woods, games in the garden, and energetic fun in our sensory room.

We have two storytimes a day, and a group singing session every afternoon. The children love their time here, and it prepares them for their move to school in every way possible.

Forest Walks

We often like to take the children on Forest Walks to local forestry areas. We have several staff who hold a Forest School training award and we have lots of fun exploring the EYFS in the outdoor environment. We enjoy mud slides, bug hunts, potion making, leaf collecting and mud drawing amongst lots of other exciting activities.

brucey1Hello there,
My name is Brucey Bear. I belong to all the children at Rockers and Rollers Nursery.
I would love to come and visit you at your house and have lots of adventures. When you take me home can you please take care of me and write about our adventures together? Drawings or photos would also be lovely.
Thank you for being my friend and looking after me.
Lots of love

We send Brucey Bear home with the children to support their Personal Social and Emotional Development as well as their Communication and Language Development. Children are able to talk about what they have done at home and share their experiences with their friends. He helps to develop confidence and promote self-esteem. It’s always an exciting time when Brucey Bear comes to visit… even the grown-ups get a turn!
